How cosmetic injections work

• Botox and Dysport are both neuromodulators that target wrinkles that form from making certain facial expressions. They help erase wrinkles and folds by preventing the underlying facial muscles from contracting, causing lines such as smile lines, forehead wrinkles, or frown lines from forming. Only specific muscles are targeted with a precise dose of the injectable, leaving the surrounding muscles unaffected so you can continue to communicate with others using normal facial expressions. The injections only take a few minutes and provide terrific results for up to three to six months at a time. Many patients find that after repeated injections, they can go longer between treatments because the underlying muscle slightly atrophies and the skin is able to heal and repair itself.
• Juvéderm is a dermal filler that restores youthful volume in targeted areas, which we naturally lose as we age, and smooths out the skin by “filling” in lines and wrinkles. It is made from hyaluronic acid, which is a substance that naturally occurs in the body and helps keep skin hydrated and supple. Over time, the body absorbs and flushes the hyaluronic acid away through natural processes, at which point maintenance treatments can be performed.
