The following procedures are largely considered to be “elective,” driven by cosmetic goals rather than urgent needs to resolve decay and disease.
- Teeth whitening – Professional bleaching products present one of the most dramatic ways to quickly and cost-effectively enhance your appearance. Products at the dentist’s office contain ingredients clinically proven to break up and lift stains. Bleaching gel may be applied directly to the teeth as an in-office procedure. Alternately, you may fill trays customized to your mouth with the gel. When the trays are worn as directed, the gel is “delivered” to your teeth evenly and comfortably, to gradually whiten teeth. Dr. Worful also uses an advanced system that can whiten stubborn discoloration effectively and in a way that minimizes sensitivity.
- Porcelain veneers and dental bonding – Both procedures can cover discoloration that is resistant to whitening. Veneers are made from thin layers of porcelain or composite resin. When applied to the front surfaces of teeth, veneers camouflage chips, cracks, and gaps. They can also alter the shape of teeth and add height to worn teeth. Bonding (or “direct” veneers) can correct the same conditions; however, the composite resin is color-matched to surrounding teeth and then prepared, applied, and molded to the front tooth surfaces. A specialized light bonds the pliable material to the natural teeth.
While not “elective” procedures, Dr. Worful offers cosmetic alternatives to conventional braces, such as Invisalign and natural-looking tooth replacement, including bridges and dentures supported by implants stabilized in the jaw.
